How It All Began
My mom taught me how to sew when I was very young. I learned a little more every year and made all of my special occasion dresses in high school. I pursued a degree in Fashion Design at Kent State University where I fine tuned my skills.
Even in college, I knew I wanted a career geared towards sewing and pattern making. I put my dreams on the back burner to raise my two daughters Scarlett and Beatrice. The plan was always to start an alterations shop in Fredonia, but I was planning on waiting until my girls were a little older and both in school.
2020 had other plans. I was bartending and serving full time, which was both mentally and physically draining. When COVID hit the US, I was laid off of work. Like a lot of Americans, I took a good look at what my life was, and shifted my priorities toward my family.
When the announcement was made that there was no PPE for healthcare workers, I took to my sewing machine. I am admittedly a hoarder of all things craft related, so I had all of the necessary supplies to make masks without having to go to the store and I had a ridiculous amount of free time. I donated as many masks as I could sew to our local healthcare establishments. It took me close to 7 weeks to get through to unemployment, and in the meantime, our community really gave back to me and my family. I knew I was in the right place.
When it was mandated that everyone wear a mask in public, my phone didn't stop ringing. I spent upwards of 10 hours a day cutting and sewing masks. Connecting back to sewing, something I always had a passion for, really made me reconsider working a job just to pay my bills. I decided to start my business full time.
Since opening my doors in August 2020, the community has been absolutely amazing and so incredibly supportive. I am proud to call Fredonia my home.
